Successful Grand Prix Premiere in Mayrhofen - 17 nations at the first HARAKIRI Mountain Running Race - 05 August 2009 Print
harakiri09_winner-mayr.jpgSunday in Mayrhofen was dominated by dazzling sunshine and the dazzling faces of the participants and winners.

In the area that is home to Markus Kröll, an ascent of 1,170 metres in 10.4 km had to be achieved in order to sign the guest book, as 'Harakiri finisher', at the Gschößwand-Haus mountain hut and then enjoy the fantastic views over the Zillertal.

4th CONSUDATLE Mountain Running Championships 2009 in Quito (Ecuador) - 05 August 2009 Print
On last 1st August, the 4th South American Mountain Running Championships was held in Quito, Ecuador.

During last CONSUDATLE's Congress celebrated on July 19th in Lima all the Federation of South America were invited to take part at the event.
Finally the participation was encouraging but - of course - more athletes could be run in this event in the future.


WMRA Grand Prix 2009 – second race 12th Grintovec Mountain running race 26th July 2009 - 27 July 2009 Print
grintovec09_winner-krupicka.jpgOver 200 mountain running fans from 10 countries gathered in the Kamniska bistrica valley to climb the Grintovec (2558m) - one of the highest mountains in Slovenia.

The course is probably the hardest in Europe - 9,6km long with almost 2000m elevation. The weather was excellent for a competition - about 20deg at the start and 10deg at the finish with almost no wind and low humidity. More than 1000 spectators followed the race all along the course and made the atmosphere suitable for a WMRA Grand Prix race. Almost 100 young runners run shorter courses.

rickey-gates-grinotvec-race-2008-winner.jpgThe first part of the International Mountain running season has just finished with the European Championships held on July 12 in Telfes (AUT) with great success for the Turkish runners in individual races and for the Italians in team competition.

After a short break, the second part of the season gets underway with a circuit of WMRA Grand Prix races on four successive weekends. This schedule is hard for the runners, but suitable for oversees runners who wants to attend at least four WMRA GP races that count towards the final raking.

Arslan and Strähl rule mountains in Telfes im Stubai - 16 July 2009 Print
straehl.jpgTwo-time defending champion Ahmet Arslan of Turkey completed a hat-trick by winning the men's title at the 8th European Mountain Running Championships in the Austrian village of Telfes im Stubai on Sunday.

The gold medal in the senior women's category went to the 22-year-old Swiss mountain runner Martina Strähl.

Hundreds of supporters gathered around the 11-kilometer route to cheer for best mountain runners from 25 countries across Europe. The senior men had to negotiate not just the tortuous 11-kilometre route but also an altitude in excess of 1300 metres.


International Youth MR Challenge - Ostheim-Hausen - GER, 27. June 2009 - 01 July 2009 Print
susa08-boys-winner.jpgThe 4th edition of the WMRA Youth Challenge was held on June 27 in Ostheim, located about 100 km east of Frankfurt.
Entrants included 16 and 17 years old girls and boys representing 11 countries. Boys competed on a 4,7 and girls on 3,0km kilometer loop up & down course. The race organization was excellent from the hospitality to the event logistics. There is no doubt that the friendships made at the event will remain in the memories of the young runners for quite some time. The Italian team dominated in the girls' race and the Russian team dominated in the boys' competition. In the boys' race Russian standout Rusakov Andrey repeated his success from 2008 when he won the 3rd edition of the Youth Challenge.
