52nd Trofeo Vanoni - Morbegno (Italy), 25th Oct. 2009 - International MR relay race - 12 October 2009 Print

Mariagrazia RobertiIt was a wonderful day for all mountain running supporters in Morbegno, Northern Italy, at the famous Trofeo Vanoni Race. A total of 130 relay teams participated in the race, along with 50 women and 300 youth competitors in the junior race for a total of 740 runners.

The course was a technical 7 kilometers (500 meters climb) for the men's race, and 5 kilometers (300 meters climb) for the ladies race.

marc_lauenstein.jpgWith a surprising and also untouchable winner the World Mountain Running Long Distance Challenge ended yesterday in Söll. Marc Lauenstein (Swiss) won the Kaisermarathon with almost 6 minutes advance before all-time-Kaisermarathon-favorite Jonathan Wyatt, who did a real great finish. The third place went to Ricky Lightfoot from England. Only a few seconds away from the medal winners there was Raymond Kemboi Chemungo from Kenia, but his team was able to win the team-ranking.

The ladies-ranking the last-year-winner Anna Pichrtova (Czech) again dominated. In a fantastic time of 3.28.57 she finished the Kaisermarathon, and so she was only 23 minutes away from the new Champion.


6th World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge - 09 October 2009 Print

The World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge is regarded has one of the WMRA's premiere racing events. WMRA rules state that the event must be connected to mountain running races with tradition and reputation and this year the event forms part of the "Kaisermarathon" which takes place in the Austrian tourist resort of Soll.

toninelli-and-krupicka.jpgLjubljana, Slovenia - Not only that The Šmarna gora race was this year celebrating its 30th anniversary and is one of the mountain running races with the longest tradition, but it was again holding the Grand prix final and was therefore a unique event.

On sunny Saturday, 3rd of October, more than 250 runners competed on steep slopes of Šmarna gora. Nine kilometers of the technical and slippery track were not a problem for the race winner Antonio Toninelli (ITA) that defeated Robert Krupicka (CZE) on second place and his colleague Marco De Gasperi (ITA) who finished third.


Finale of 2009 WMRA Grand Prix takes place on Smarna gora – PREVIEW - 01 October 2009 Print
thumb_finale_kosovelj.jpgThe final event of the 2009 WMRA Grand Prix series takes place on Saturday 3. Oct 2009.

The challenging mountain running course of 9,5km on Smarna gora just outside Ljubljana has an ascent of 750m and descent of 290m. Due to its technical difficulty and the profile that is changing all long this is a very demanding course that gives advantage to a complete, powerful and brave athlete.


Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships 16th – 20th Sept. 2009 - 22 September 2009 Print
wilson_chemweno.jpgThe world's first organised mountain race took place in Grasmere, Cumbria, England in 1850 and almost 160 years later the neighbouring Lake District town of Keswick hosted the first Commonwealth Mountain and Ultra Distance Championships.

The event was hailed a tremendous success and is being seen as the first major step towards getting mountain and long distance running included in the Commonwealth Games by 2018.
