Mexico and USA split 11. NACAC Mountain Running Championship titles 2014. - 21 July 2014 Print
2014nacacwm.jpgAt 11th NACAC Mountain Running Championships 2014 held on 20. July in Ajijic, Mexico, the men’s team gold medal went to Mexico’s A team while the women’s race was won by Team USA.
Same situation in the individual race: NACAC title in the men race for Mexican Mario Alberto Ramiro Allende and NACAC title in the women race for USA Brandy Erholtz.

Without Canada in the mix, it was just two countries vying for NACAC Championship honors.
The Canadian selection race for the championships was held just a few weeks ago and none of the athletes were able to coordinate their schedules to make the trip to Mexico.
When travel plans failed to pan out for the selected athletes, there was little time to recruit replacements.
The race started and finished in the town square with the first and last kilometre on cobblestone streets.
The remainder of the course included dirt single track trails, rocky sections, with steep ascents and descents. The total ascending was 1150 meters, equal to the descent. The high point on the course was over 2400 meters.
A total of 700 runners participated in the event which celebrated its 18th running this year and included the 13.8-kilometer run as well as a shorter distance race of six kilometers.
Sunny skies prevailed throughout the race with temperatures reaching into the mid-seventies.

13. European Mountain Running Championships, Gap-France, 12. July 2014 - 07 July 2014 Print
2014logoea.pngGap, hosting venue of the next 13. European Mountain Running Championships, has a great mountain running tradition.
There will be 26 European countries present at the 13. European Running Championships.

Gap, the South Alps’ Capital, is located between Chamonix and Nice, between Mediterranean Provence and the high Alps and sits at an elevation of 750 meters with 42,000 inhabitants. Gap lives like a charming Provençal City in the heart of the Alps. Close to the “Parc National des Ecrins” with its 4.000 meters high mountains, Gap has an ideal location for mountain-related sport activities. In a few minutes you have access to hundreds of kilometres of excellent hiking paths and mountain biking routes. Ideal conditions for mountain runners!
In 1993, it was the host city of the 9th World Mountain Running Trophy and the local favourite Isabelle Guillot was the winner of the women’s race. In her long and successful sport career from 1987 to 2008, she participated in 17 World and 11 European major events; she stood 10 times on the podium, 5 times on the highest position. Isabelle designed the course for the races this year. We are all convinced that the 4km long loop with 250 m ascents and descents will include all the elements of mountain running: steep ascents, technical descents and fast sections in the middle. Girls will have to run it once, boys and ladies 2 times and men 3 times.
In July 2013 on the same paths on the slopes of Charence mountain participants of WMRA Youth challenge tested the courses.
